European standard test EN 14476. Viruses. STREAM sanitizer. Chlorine dioxide
Report: LS24-00292
Tests were carried out in a specialized laboratory in Switzerland in accordance with the norms and standards of the European Union, standard EN 14476 : 2019 - 10. Test for the evaluation of virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas. Research Conducted by the Swiss company Microbe Investigations AG, which is associated with the ETH Laboratory of Food Microbiology, which is engaged in fundamental research to develop new, advanced methods for the detection and control of bacterial pathogens.
Microbe Investigations AG is a subsidiary of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. It was founded in 2012 as a result of an ETH opinion from the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Health of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology of ETH Zürich.
EN 14476 : 2019-10 Quantitative virucidal suspension test for STREAM Sanitizer / disinfectant
Test Details
Test Organism:
- Adenovirus (ATCC VR-5)
- Poliovirus (Fridrich Loeffler Institut (RVB-1260)
- Murine Norovirus (Fridrich Loeffler Institut (RVB-0651)
Test Specimen: 8 parts of Stream Sanitizer / Disinfectant
Test inoculum: 1 part of test virus into 9 part of (specimen + interfering substance) test mixture
Interfering substance : 0.03% BSA in deionised water Contact time : 5 min
Test Temperature : 25°C ± 1°C
Outline of Test Method:
1 part of test virus (Murine Norovirus/Poliovirus/Adenovirus) was inoculated into 9 parts of control (hard water + interfering substance) specimen and 9 parts of test (Hand sanitizer/disinfectant + interfering substance).
The above mixture was pulse vortexed and incubated at a specified temperature (25 o C ± 1 o C) for 5 min, after contact 0.5 ml of the mixture was added to 4.5 ml of ice-cold medium for neutralization of disinfectant. The neutralized suspension was subjected to serial dilution (1:10) using culture medium.
Virus recovery of the control and test sample was done by plating the serially diluted sample on 96-well plate for TCID50. The assay was performed in triplicate using 3 test specimens for each step.
Test summary / comments:
In the test EN 14476, the sample “Disinfectant / Sanitizer STREAM” when challenged for a contact time for 5 min, showed:
- 1.0 log (90%) reduction against Adenovirus
- 0.275 log (46.91%) reduction against Murine Noro Virus (MNV)
- 0.15 log (29.2%) reduction against Poliovirus
Conclusions:
As a result of the test, reduction was indicated for all tested viruses.
The level of effectiveness of the Disinfectant / Sinitizer can be adjusted by increasing the dosage or the amount of time the disinfectant interacts with the environment being disinfected.
